Isivivane
Isivivane(or
travelers’ cairns) can still be found along foot paths and roads
throughout KwaZulu Natal. It is a Zulu tradition that anyone passing
an isivivane must pick up a stone, spit on it and add it to the heap
as a token of good luck.
This one is just off the main road between Weenen
and Muden, but others can be found on the footpath that led to Dukuza,
King Shaka’s homestead, and along the path between Mgungundlovu
and the spring where water was collected for King Dingane.
